Technical Operations Overview

Technical Operations is the maintenance, repair and overhaul division of United. The department includes aircraft maintenance technicians, engineers, planners, ground equipment and facilities teams, supply chain teams and more.

Internships are paid, and course credit hours may be considered depending on university’s guidelines. Interns are eligible for travel privileges, and some may be eligible for a one-time relocation stipend.

Interns are placed throughout our system, depending on the project / discipline. Following are possible locations:

Responsibilities

  • Provide aircraft engineering support to line and check aircraft

  • Review, evaluate, and determine next steps on manufacturer bulletins, management requests and regulatory requirements on United Airlines Airbus/Boeing aircraft

  • Prepare cost analysis on projects

  • Investigate and provide decisions for non-conformances resulting from in-service failures or maintenance incidents

  • Must be currently enrolled full-time in an Aeronautical/Aerospace, Mechanical, Material Science or related engineering degree program

  • Must have a minimum of 12 semester hours in core engineering course work

  • Individual must be a rising junior (at minimum) when internship begins

  • Spring 2019 internships occur end of January – April, and interns are expected to be onsite during this time

  • If relocation is required, students must be willing to relocate and pay for own housing. If needed, United will provide air transportation to/from internship location

  • Work related travel may be required, individuals must be able to travel without any restrictions

  • Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the US for any employer without sponsorship
