Cabin Systems / Interiors Engineering
Studies, analyzes, and seeks solutions to problems related to the design, operation, maintenance, performance, modification, or repair of aircraft, and their components. Uses a structured, logical, and analytical approach in problem solving. Defines maintenance program, configuration, and serviceability criteria ensuring safe and legal operations. Analyzes and implements regulatory requirements. Evaluates the effects of modifications or new equipment on reliability and performance. Evaluates the benefits of the cost impact of a fleet decision to ensure an optimum balance of cost, asset utilization, quality, and reliability. Authors, designs, tests, and manages projects. Provides on-site technical support for line and base operations. Communicates with customers on technical issues, workscope recommendations, and failure investigations. Interfaces with internal and external organizations regarding specific aircraft and component issues.
Manage the Organization Designation Authorization (ODA) functions within Engineering which has authorization to issue both, Supplemental Type Certification (STC), Major Repair / Alterations (MRA), Special Airworthiness Permits, and Aging aircraft Inspections. Engineers are responsible developing Certification Plans, Implementing and Coordinating the Certification Effort up to and including the issuance of the STC and MRA Approval, issuance of Special Flight Permits, and accomplishment of FAA mandated Aging Aircraft Inspection Program. Engineering Standards will also often handle projects which require extensive cross functional expertise such as RVSM, ETOPS, and CAT II/III. Responsible for Engineering Standards functions which include the ongoing fine tuning of Engineering Procedures with the GMM. Responsible for organizing major initiatives such as review of flight deck standardization, parts, engineering documents and IT standardization related to Post SOC to End Stated. Focal from Engineering related to new MRO Program Replacement Initiatives.
Manage the specification of new aircraft, develop the implementation of the delivery, coordinate with flight ops, scheduling, marketing, and fleet management to determine configuration. Maintain configuration control, aircraft BFE budget, and part commonality. Responsible for post-delivery, including but not limited to, service ready coordination, process, along with delivery exceptions, and delivery events. Provide on-site presences at manufacturer ensuring United's commitments are met or exceeded. Additional responsible the coordination for retiring and returning aircraft from the United Fleet. Lastly responsible for inducting used aircraft and the modifications associated with bring used aircraft into the United fleet.
Review Service Bulletins from airframe manufacture or component manufacture for effectively to United Fleet and determine if modifications are cost justified.
Coordinate warranty recovery on Service Bulletins which airframe or component manufacture is responsible.
Ensure all modifications do not adversely affect the configuration of the aircraft or component.
Repairs and/or modifications must also be evaluated to ensure no adverse effect on ETOPS, RVSM, CAT III, etc.
Provides technical engineering services, recommendations and trouble-shooting support to other divisions and personnel involved with aircraft systems.
Investigate maintenance and operational issues, evaluate shop findings, initiate corrective actions and provide feed-back to other maintenance and engineering teams.
Act as a liaison between engineering, maintenance, vendors and manufacturers within discipline area of expertise, as appropriate.
Organize and manage priorities to accomplish the work processes to meet all the deliverables for projects, maintenance program changes and technical specification revisions.
Develop complex solutions and implementation plans, project justification, cost/benefit analysis, project implementation management, technical support and obtaining of FAA approvals.
Provide front line on site implementation of complex projects, along with on-site support for all pilot projects in area of expertise.
Includes support of documentation updates, and processes.
B.S. degree in Engineering or equivalent relative work experience
Engineering skill sets which can be applied to a specific engineering discipline, these skills include, but are not limited to, analysis of complex technical issues, highly detailed level project development/management for regulatory compliance modifications, and overall ownership of specific systems
Successful candidate will also have exhibited traits related to detailed cost/benefit analysis of projects, as well as effectively engaging stakeholders cross-functionally
Effective communication skills
High level of expertise in interpreting Structural Repair Manual, Component Maintenance Manuals and Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) drawings
Knowledge of FARs, airworthiness design and substantiation criteria, aircraft and equipment design and operational characteristics, aircraft materials and processes
Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship
Successful completion of interview required to meet job qualifications
Reliable, punctual attendance is essential function of the position
