Technical Operations

Technical Operations is the maintenance, repair and overhaul division of United. The department includes aircraft maintenance technicians, engineers, planners, ground equipment and facilities teams, supply chain teams and more.

Job overview and responsibilities

Manages the production of technical work instructions (manuals and scheduled maintenance task cards) used to accomplish aircraft and engine maintenance. Establishes and maintains strong business relationships with Aircraft Maintenance, Engineering, Planning, Technical Implementation & Analysis, QA and Supply Chain departments and is an interface point of contact. Assigns personnel in accordance with business requirements to achieve maximum productivity and cost control. Ensures team has the appropriate resources needed and holds them accountable for the work assigned and performed. Leads team in the timely support of initiatives to improve Maintenance efficiency and compliance and optimize aircraft network availability.

  • Manage, coach and train Methods and Standards Technical Writers creating and revising technical manuals and task cards

  • Work with Maintenance Programs, Maintenance Task Planning, Engineering and QA to ensure compliance with program and regulatory requirements

  • Advise Engineering on technical manual and task card requirements for projects

  • Work with Maintenance to develop and refine maintenance procedures

  • Establish priorities to meet operational needs

  • Assign and manage group resources and projects

  • Develop and manage team processes and procedures

  • Identify and implement opportunities for improvements

  • Conduct performance planning and review of assigned personnel

  • Accomplish special projects and assignments as directed by the Director, Methods and Standards

Required

  • AS/Technical Degree

  • Knowledge of aircraft systems operation

  • Ability to interpret technical and regulatory documents

  • Knowledge of electronic data management

  • +5 years' airline or military aviation maintenance knowledge/experience

  • +1 years' of managerial experience

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship

  • Successful completion of interview required to meet job qualification

  • Reliable, punctual attendance is an essential function of the position

Preferred

  • BS Degree/A&P License or equivalent work experience

  • Knowledge of XML authoring and delivery

  • Knowledge of maintenance database systems

  • 5-10 years in progressive leadership roles

  • 5-10 years technical writing/editing experience

  • Experience in Lean/Continous Process Improvement
