Technical Operations

Technical Operations is the maintenance, repair and overhaul division of United. The department includes aircraft maintenance technicians, engineers, planners, ground equipment and facilities teams, supply chain teams and more.

Ground Service Equipment Technician

Location: DEN - Denver, CO

Starting Hourly Rate: $26.77, (starting rate based on lowest hourly rate per CBA)

Job overview and responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot, repair and complete preventative maintenance on Ground Service Equipment (both motorized and non-motorized)

  • Work will include diagnostic testing and repair of gas engines, transmissions, suspension and brake systems

  • Troubleshooting and repair of diesel engines, heavy industrial equipment, including large aircraft air conditioners, air start and ground electrical power units

  • Ground Service Equipment Technicians are represented by the International Brotherhood of Teamsters (IBT)

  • Schedules are bid and awarded according to seniority

  • Salary increases will be administered according to the current IBT/United contract

  • New employees are required to join the union within ninety (90) days of employment

  • There is an initiation fee for joining the union and subsequent monthly union dues which are set by the Local Lodge

Applicants Hiring into Denver from Outside the Denver Area – Effective August 17, 2021

  1. Applicants hired into to Denver with a residence more than 50 miles from DIA will receive $15,000 as an incentive to take a GSE or facility maintenance technician (118 or 119) position in Denver and move to a residence within 50 miles of DIA.

  2. Employees will receive $5,000 payable after one month of service will receive $1,000 per month thereafter to a maximum payment of $15,000.

  3. Employees must remain a United employee in Denver for 12 months. If employees exit Denver and/or United for any reason prior to 12 months, any incentive money received will need to be repaid.

  4. Employees will receive two positive space round-trips for the employee and immediate family to be used to travel to and from Denver during their first six months in Denver.

  5. Employees will need to show proof of a qualifying residence.

Required

  • 24 months of experience with troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of gas and diesel engines, electrical and hydraulic systems, and motorized equipment

  • Must have a high school diploma, GED or equivalent

  • Must possess a valid state issued driver's license

  • Ability to work any shift assigned (nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed) within 24/7 operation

  • Ability to climb and work from ladders, and/or walk for extended periods

  • Ability to work outdoors in all temperatures and weather conditions

  • Ability to work in an environment with exposure to high noise levels

  • Moderate lifting

  • Computer experience for input and retrieval of data

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship

  • Successful completion of interview required to meet job qualifications

  • Reliable, punctual attendance is essential function of the position

Preferred

  • Certificate of completion from an accredited automotive school

  • Experience with motorized equipment supporting airport ground operations
