Technical Operations is the maintenance, repair and overhaul division of United. The department includes aircraft maintenance technicians, engineers, planners, ground equipment and facilities teams, supply chain teams and more.
Job overview and responsibilities
Responsible for the integrity of parts inventory that are identified as Dangerous Goods and for translating regulatory requirements into functional compliance related to operating procedure.
Assist the Sr. Dangerous Goods Staff Representative in conducting Dangerous Good Investigations, identify gaps and recommend corrective actions.
Collaborate with the Sr. Staff Representative in developing the Division Dangerous Goods Material Program through Shipping Instructions, policies and procedures and training curriculum
Collaborate with the Sr. Staff Representative, Corporate Safety and other Stakeholders in developing the Dangerous Goods program for the Warehouse Management System, while simultaneously supporting the Legacy system.
Support the Sr. Staff Representative in developing and administering strategies to ensure Dangerous Goods are transported safely and in compliance with applicable Federal and International Regulations and Standards.
Monitor Dangerous Goods Rulemaking and Regulatory activities and publications, notifying affected parties of impending changes to the regulations.
Facilitate Dangerous Goods steering committee meetings and benchmark best practices in support of UA Continuous improvements programs
Assist the Transportation team in sourcing and coordinating International and Domestic shipments for the enterprise including aircraft parts, engines, tooling and equipment
Management of United Airlines Aircraft Spare Parts’ container program
Support managing the Supply Chain Excellence Transportation projects ensuring that measurable business results are met throughout the enterprise
Responsible for monitoring imports and export activities
Assist with classification and ensure other import documents are provided timely to customs brokers
Strong business acumen and the ability to partner effectively across various disciplines and the ability to understand transportation modes
Ability in collecting, analyzing and managing quantitative data and creating meaningful analyses to lead business improvement and cost reduction
In depth knowledge of Dangerous Goods Regulations, IACO, IATA, and 49 CFR and able to interpret technical information from these manuals and advise stakeholders
Must exhibit the ability and initiative to work independently and multi-task, and must be proficient in Microsoft Office applications
Highly analytical, detail oriented and strong business sense, ability to manage new ideas and creative solutions
Strong communication, problem solving, interpersonal, verbal and presentation skills; oral and written skills
Capable of working in a cross-functional environment
Ability to self- motivate and work with a sense of urgency and prioritize task
Undergraduate degree in Supply Chain, technical, safety or training or equivalent level of work experience
Minimum of 2 years’ experience in the field of Dangerous Goods processes, training and safety investigation
Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship
Successful completion of interview required to meet job qualification
Reliable, punctual attendance is an essential function of the position
Demonstrate knowledge in Dangerous Goods program development and deployment
Knowledge in Transportation Management System applications
