Technical Operations is the maintenance, repair and overhaul division of United. The department includes aircraft maintenance technicians, engineers, planners, ground equipment and facilities teams, supply chain teams and more.

Job overview and responsibilities

The Regional Line Planning Manager reports directly to the Sr. Manager of Line Planning. This position is responsible for leading the regional line planning teams who oversee all scheduled maintenance requirements while optimizing and balancing station resources within their assigned region. This role also requires a technology-based mindset able to design, test and implement new software platforms to the line planning teams. The Regional Line Planning Manager is both a creative and strategic individual who will harmonize and lead our collaborative culture. The ideal candidate will require the leadership skills necessary to make sound business decisions, identify and implement process improvement opportunities and mentor employees to perform at their highest level. This leadership position also requires effective communication skills ensuring all facets of workload are adequately coordinated with local maintenance teams.   • Leads the Regional Line Planning Team in reviewing, scheduling, coordinating and effectively communicating scheduled maintenance activities

  • Liaison between Integrated Technology team, Technical Operation, Method and Standards, Records, Maintenance programs, Quality Control, Engineering and Operations

  • Subject matter expert and designated station trainer on maintenance related technology platforms

  • Lead daily workload meetings and conduct presentations with team members and station leadership

  • Develops and fosters strong cross-divisional relationships while maintaining an open line of communication with the various planning teams, maintenance stations, maintenance control and other project management groups

  • Responsible to build, develop and maintain the Regional Line Planning Teams, utilizing the company talent acquisition process

  • Ensures all key performance metrics are achieved regarding flight arrival, departure and completion performance while also meeting company cost initiatives

  • Ensures workability and compliance of regulatory documents surrounding engineering projects, new maintenance program tasks and fleet campaign directives

  • Coordinates pilot projects involving man-hour and span time estimates on new and existing line maintenance tasks

  • Manage and administer line planning scheduling liabilities ensuring 24-hour coverage while minimizing overtime

  • Mentoring, developing and cross-training regional line planning personnel on various duties and responsibilities within Technical Operations

  • Create, update and maintain departmental GMM (General Maintenance Manual) and SOP (Standard Operating Procedures) manuals while ensuring all processes are adhered to


  • High School Diploma, GED or education equivalent

  • FAA Airframe and Powerplant License

  • 5 years of commercial aircraft or military aircraft maintenance experience.

  • Strong background and in-depth knowledge of Federal Aviation Regulations pertaining to maintenance programs and procedures, aircraft maintenance systems and aircraft routing

  • Detail-oriented, proactive self-starter demonstrating a positive, willing attitude as well as exhibiting excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Demonstrates strong knowledge and understanding of project and time management concepts

  • Ability to work long hours with limited to no supervision from leadership

  • Take initiative to continually improve team performance and work processes through feedback, problem solving and idea generation while driving root cause corrective action for behavioral and operational issues

  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint and Word documents

  • Must be flexible & willing to work any shift in a 24 hour/7 day a week operation including weekends, nights & holidays.

  • Up to 40% travel for training and required meetings. This includes some international travel

  • Valid US Passport required for international travel


  • College Degree in Aviation or Business Management

  • 2 years in an aircraft maintenance management role

  • 2 years of maintenance planning experience


  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship

  • Successful completion of interview required to meet job qualification

  • Reliable, punctual attendance is an essential function of the position
