Starting Salary: $26.21 per hour

Overview & Responsibilities

As a Welding Technician you will work in the fast-paced San Francisco Technical Operation department and this position plays a very important role in providing quality service to our internal customers.

The Welding Technician should have strong working knowledge and abilities to perform repairs on critical Aircraft and Engine parts on a daily basis

including the required following duties and qualifications:

  • Perform assigned work utilizing shielded metal arc, gas, tungsten inert gas (TIG) welding processes.

  • Experience welding hard alloys (stainless steel, titanium Inconel and /or steel)

  • Must be able to read and interpret blueprints

  • Must be familiar with precision measuring instruments

Welding Technicians must be able to work around the clock shifts, including weekends and holidays, in the outdoors in all

weather conditions. Schedules are bid and awarded according to seniority. Technicians may bid for schedules several

times a year and schedules are awarded according to seniority.

Welding Technicians are represented by the International Brotherhood of Teamsters (IBT). Salary increases will be

administered according to the current IBT/United contract. Shift differentials of $.51 and $.58 cents per hour for working

an afternoon or evening shift respectively are paid in addition to the hourly rate. New employees are required to join the

union within ninety (90) days of employment. There is an initiation fee for joining the union and subsequent monthly union



  • Must have a high school diploma/GED or education equivalent.

  • Certificate of completion from an accredited vocational school

  • Knowledge/Skills

  • 2 years’ experience required in general welding experience and successful completion of a qualification test required


  • United will consider applicants with criminal histories consistent with the Fair Chance Ordinance

  • Must be at least 18 years of age

  • Valid US driver's license (revoked, suspended or expired are not considered valid)

  • Must pass 10-year background check

  • Must be willing to take a pre-placement physical abilities test, hearing and vision tests, and drug screen

  • Candidate must be able to clear a fingerprint-based criminal history check in order to obtain and retain credentials necessary for the position required

  • Position-specific clearances may include but are not limited to FAA, TSA, Port Authority, U.S. Customs and U.S. Postal service clearances required

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship

  • Successful completion of interview and assessment required to meet job qualification

  • Reliable, punctual attendance is an essential function of the position
